Cao Bang is famous for its rich history, culture, and diverse topography, creating many scenic spots with pristine features and high tourism value. The system of revolutionary historical relics and scenic spots is preserved and restored. Traditional folk culture, literature, art, folk songs, folk music, and folk dances are researched, collected, restored, and promoted.

With over 95% of its population being ethnic minorities, each with its own unique cultural practices, Cao Bang has created a multicultural region that attracts tourists to visit and learn. Cao Bang shares a long border with China, making it favorable for cooperation in developing cross-border tourism such as: "red tourism," self-driving tours, adventure boat tours, and collaborative construction of cross-border live performance stages…

With similarities in nature, history, and culture, Cao Bang has actively cooperated and linked with other provinces in the region to develop tourism, exploiting the value of its natural landscapes and cultural heritage to introduce to domestic and international tourists. These efforts have yielded encouraging results.

In particular, over 15 years of cooperation, the "Through the Heritage Regions of Viet Bac" tourism program has become a unique tourism product, increasingly establishing its brand in both domestic and international markets. Through the program, trade fairs, publicity, and tourism promotion activities have made significant progress, such as: developing tourism promotional publications; regularly disseminating information and promoting tourism through provincial media, social networks, and websites; and establishing several tourist areas, destinations, and routes with tourism products such as historical, cultural, ecological, resort, and spiritual tourism.

The formation of tourist areas and destinations has led to the development of infrastructure. Transportation connecting inter-regional tourist routes has been upgraded, repaired, and renovated, such as National Highway 3 connecting Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan; National Highway 4 connecting Cao Bang and Lang Son; and National Highway 279 connecting Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, and Ha Giang. Accommodation facilities are constantly increasing in number and scale, offering services to meet tourist needs; transportation is modern and courteous; tourist areas and destinations are attractive, ensuring environmental hygiene, and communication systems are convenient and efficient.

Along with the development of tourism infrastructure, the provinces in the Viet Bac region have been planning to cooperate and link up to build new tourist tours and routes; researching and developing unique tourism products specific to the region and each locality, avoiding duplication. Over the years, tourism development cooperation programs in the region have achieved certain results, with the number of tourists visiting the provinces of the Viet Bac region in general increasing (in 2019, the entire region welcomed over 13.8 million visitors; in 2022, nearly 12 million visitors; in 2023, over 14.5 million visitors; and in 2024, over 15 million visitors). Besides inter-provincial and inter-regional linkages, as well as linkages between localities and within and outside the country, the trend of bilateral and multilateral linkages between businesses involved in tourism activities needs to be further promoted. The connection between businesses is evident in many areas and aspects: linkages between travel agencies and businesses operating accommodation, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment facilities; linkages in destination development, product development, and promotion.

Tourism businesses need to diversify tourism products and connect tours, routes, areas, and destinations; focus on developing tourism products related to the strengths of the local tourism sector; and build suitable tourism products and services. The close collaboration between businesses in this process increases the attractiveness and value of the brand and products, improves business efficiency, and ensures the sustainable development of tourism activities.

The general trend in tourism development in the current period is regional and destination linkages; linkages are only truly effective when each link in the chain has its own strengths and unique characteristics. Identifying tourism as a key economic sector for exploitation and development, the tourism industry is currently collaborating with research institutes and foreign organizations to study and develop mechanisms to encourage tourism development.

The province is focusing on investing in and upgrading the transportation system connecting the province's tourist destinations and those of neighboring provinces, constructing the Tra Linh (Cao Bang) - Dong Dang (Lang Son) expressway; investing in and beautifying tourist sites; linking tourism development with China and several provinces and cities in Vietnam; promoting tourism development linkages with the provinces of Viet Bac; and exploring tourism development linkages with Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of the Northeast region...

Cao Bang has been awarded the hosting rights for 2025. The "Through the Heritage Regions of Viet Bac" tourism program, to be held in Cao Bang in 2025, will offer visitors colorful experiences of the highlands and the province's beautiful cultural, historical, and natural heritage.

According to Sam Viet An, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: Strengthening linkages can maximize the potential, strengths, and advantages in tourism development in the Viet Bac region, thereby promoting tourism development in Cao Bang and other provinces in the region. This linkage requires provinces and businesses to jointly research and understand the needs of tourists, thereby designing unique, all-inclusive tours and itineraries at preferential prices, creating conditions for tourists to fully admire the beauty and experience the most distinctive cultural features of the ethnic communities in the Viet Bac region.

Viet Bac not only boasts majestic nature and a clean climate, but also holds many unique cultural and ethnic values. Each locality and province has its own strengths and beauty; therefore, each province needs to research, strategize, and develop outstanding tourism products with distinctive characteristics to create highlights in the linkage chain to attract tourists.
